Bird of Paradise

The country of this splendid and exotic plant is Cape Peninsula (Cape Province, South Africa). It can reach 1m tall, it has no stem above the ground and it belongs to the banana family. Its showy flowers look like a bird with outstretched wings and it can last for weeks, since each pod contains three different flowers that open consecutively.
