(Hippopotamus amphibius)

The hippopotamus is a large mostly herbivorous mammal. It lives near the water in Southern and Central Africa and, leaving aside elephants, it is considered one of the heaviest animals in the world. They have nocturnal habits and are herbivores but occasionally they eat some meat or carcasses. It can reach 2.7 meters (8.85ft) long and weigh up to 1,500 k. They have a barrel-shaped torso, short legs and wide-opening mouths revealing large canine tusks. To be able to survive under water, have interdigital webbing. Their eyes, ears and nostrils are placed high on the roof of their skulls which allows them to remain underwater for five minutes.

Hippopotamus in Mythology: The Egyptians often represented the hippos as they were a symbol of the animal gods. In the Old Egypt, there was the Hippos' festival in which the king killed a white hippopotamus and then he was considered Horus, the God that killed Seth which had the shape of an animal. According to the investigator Alfred Bartlhuber, hippos, as aquatic animals, were considered by the Egyptians as symbols of resurrection coming from the fundamental water represented by their green- turquoise coloring. In the Egyptian mythology, we can also find hippos near the goddess Tauret that was depicted half human - half hippo. She was the goddess of fertility and pregnancy. Among many native African people, hippos are considered totemic animals and cannot be either hunted or eaten since this would cause terrible misfortunes for the tribe.

Dreams: It represents a great force or hidden dangers. The great size of the hippopotamus can cause you to think about authority, nevertheless, it can also mean that there is certain lack of confidence.
