Monkey in Mythology: In the ancient world, the monkey was related to Thoth, the god of death and it was worshipped with him. In the Middle Ages, the monkey was regarded as impure and devilish, because it personified the animal, which was considered sinful during that time. In many ancient cultures, the monkey was highly respected, it was considered sacred and untouchable. It relates silliness with wisdom. From the Japanese mythology, we know the image of the three wise monkeys that cover mouth, eyes and ears. This ancient image of Buddhism represents those people who want to continue having fun at all costs. By covering those parts of the body, they want to prevent the three worms from escaping; otherwise they could tell, such as spies, the human sins. They represent the wisdom with which is possible to face evil with tranquility. In the Chinese zodiac, the monkey represents the one who leaves aside the body and its weaknesses and has an astute mind. It is regarded as extremely intelligent, very erotic, active, courageous and lovable. In India, Hanuman, the Monkey God is worshipped and we know from discoveries on Egyptian tombs, that they have even been embalmed and buried.
