The pileated gibbon belongs to the hominid family. There are 21 species all over the world. Hominids are man's closest relatives in the Animal Kingdom. They stand out by features that other animals do not have, such as a sharp intelligence and a developed social culture.

Gibbon in Mythology: We have come to know the story of the Monkey King from Chinese mythology. It is a story written on XVII Century in which we are told the journey of Monk Xuanzang and the Monkey King from China to India. It is amazing that even today we can see a large quantity of monkeys near the temples. In Chinese Astrology, there is the sign of the monkey, which identifies people born in certain years, which are regarded as extremely superficial, since they are in search of the easiest way, of the optimal solution. People born in a year of the Monkey are likely to view life as a series of quick events. They are witty, intelligent and have a way of being particularly erotic. The similarity with the man in body structure and several similar habits has contributed to mythic representations. In many different religions, some species of hominids are considered sacred. The god of the Ancient Egypt, Thoth, was represented as a monkey and, at that time, they were even embalmed. Rhesus macaques and hanuman langurs are considered sacred in India. In Hindu mythology, there is a monkey god, Hanuman and in the Indian epic, the monkeys helped Prince Rama release his wife from the demons. In China, the songs in duet of the gibbons were related to an alleged melancholy of these animals and they were frequently included in poetry or were represented in pieces of art.
