Penguins are flightless birds that are found in the Southern Hemisphere. Their wings have evolved over time into fins. They are superbly adapted to water and when on the ground they move heavily. There are large differences in size and weight among the species and the colder the habitat, the larger the animals as well as the warmer the habitat, the smaller the animals.
Penguin in Mythology: Approximately 50 million years ago, the ancestors of the penguins began to inhabit the continents near the 45° South Meridian. They were excellent swimmers and probably they still able to fly. But as they did not have to fear terrestrial predators, they forgot how to fly and they fully adapted to living in the sea. After approximately 45 million years, humans encountered the penguins. Whether in South America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand or the islands of the South Atlantic, it didn't matter where, penguins became an important part of human food. As they were unable to fly, eggs and meat were easy prey for people. As of the 14th century, in New Zealand, there are the Maori people. They feed on penguins, but at the same time they worshipped them. The Australian aborigines have many legends on penguins, however, they did not hunt them, and they only worshipped them. It is likely that they only collected their eggs. In South Africa, there is the African Penguin and it is known that the Nama people wear long cloaks made of the skin of penguins. These tribes manufactured garments made of oily skins. In Lüderitz, Namibia, some bones of African Penguins that date back to 4,000 years ago have been found. Such bones were used as tools. In South America, the Yaghan people hunted penguins with canoes. The Kaweskar, also called Alacaluf (meaning "mussel eater" in Yaghan), are a South American people who live in the Chilean Patagonia and they also hunted penguins using canoes. It is likely that the shamans have communicated telepathically with the animals before the game and that afterwards they probably thanked them.
