The tiger, which is the largest member of the cat family, can be immediately recognized by its orange coat with black stripes and white markings. The size, color and pattern of the coat vary with each subspecies. There used to be a total of 8 subspecies, of which 3 were exterminated during the 50s. The remaining 5 are highly threatened.
