The Blue Morpho is a butterfly of the family Nymphalidae (Nymphalidae). Due to his flights range from 9.5 cm to 12 cm, he is classified as belonging to the class of larger moths. It is characterized by its bright blue wing-top. The bright color of this shade of blue is produced by interference of light on the scales of the wings. The color intensity of the female is not as strong. The drawings on the outer edges, the front and rear wings are black with white dots. This butterfly is characteristic of the Amazon forest, tropical rain forests, Mexico, Central America also seen on the island of Trinidad and other Caribbean islands. It can be found at heights of up to 1400 meters. Moths feed on fermenting fruit and they fly with their typical bobbing flight to woodlands, along roadsides or along rivers. The females are particularly active at noon, they lay their eggs on a leaf surface from the forage. The hatching caterpillars are dotted yellow and red, and eat the leaves of the plant for 4 months until they go into the pupation stage and develop into new butterflies. This kind of butterflies are currently threatened due to the conditions of the location where they are found and the high interest of collectors.
