Sweet Chestnut

(Castanea sativa)

Sweet Chestnut grows in sunny locations in Central and Southern Europe. This majestic tree can reach 30 meters high and 100 years of life. In July, the female flowers appear as light green catkins, the male ones are creamy white and they grow into a bundle of spikes about 20 centimeters long. Its fruits contain 2 or 3 edible seeds.
