Velvet Shank - Samtfußrübling

(Flammulina velutipes)

This mushroom grows from August to April, including the winter months, on leafy trees forming groups. It may be recognized for its yellowish brown cap. It is humid, somewhat sticky and smooth. The cap can measure between 1 and 6 centimeters and it is surrounded above and below by other mushroom caps of the same variety.
