This plant of eastern origin (India) was introduced in Europe as aromatic plant in the 16th century. This plant of aromatic perfume can reach 50 centimeters high and grows in temperate climates. Its pleasant and intense flavor has become a frequently used spice in cooking, but it also has medical applications. Basil is provided with a resistant stem surrounded by pairs of leaves cross-shaped of light green color. Their white or purple flowers appear only in summer.
